Waste Reduction and Environmental Awareness Training

Environmental awareness is a vital part of our lives. Ecological degradation is detrimental and jeopardises animals, plants, and humans’ long-term health and security. Incorporation with the EU Myan Ku fund, Prevent Plastics Myanmar provided a series of Waste Reduction and Environmental Awareness Trainings to over two hundred thirty-nine workers from garment sectors. 

Training targets waste minimisation and requirements for effective waste management and personal contribution to waste redemption. 

Following methods are used to facilitate the training for maximum outcome. 

• Simulation Methods: Participants move around, learn new ways of receiving waste management knowledge, and are encouraged to question. Active participation favour in the learning process on waste segregation.
• Knowledge-Based Method: Group brainstorming assignments applied, participants were allowed to collaborate to measure one another’s knowledge and help each other to develop and learn for 3R, pollution, climate change, waste-related topics.
• Experiential Method: Open-ended discussion activities and active and open-ended questioning guidance ( separated by five groups and open discussion for each team’s commitment to other’s team’s challenges and debates )
• Gaming method: can sensitise participants to the need for reusing waste. Playing games to see how everyday decisions can reduce waste, energy and even help save money at home, at work, and around their community.

After the training, a challenge for ten days of single-use plastic reduction was conducted in a private Viber group, and trainees participated actively. 

Prevent Plastics will continue to provide training on Waste Reduction and Environmental Awareness.
