Mantas & Mobula Rays Talk by Myanmar Ocean Project

June 23, 2024

The Myanmar Ocean Project and Goethe-Institut Myanmar’s Go Green Goethe Programme, in partnership with Prevent Plastics Myanmar, hosted a talk show about the endangered Manta Rays in the ocean last Saturday, June 22, at the Goethe-Institut Myanmar.
Before the talk show, a morning program was organised for children from Sonne Social Organisation School, featuring activities such as storytelling, watercolour painting, and dancing with poems. The storytelling session included two engaging stories: Our Ocean, Our Home, “Thazin Meets Amazing Manta Rays”, and “Crystal Angel & Plastic Goblins,” performed by super volunteers. After the storytelling, our volunteers & children energetically dance to the performances of two poems, “Let’s Clean Up” and “Reduce Usage.”
Following these lively activities, the children painted illustrations of the Manta Rays. The children immensely enjoyed the painting session, and their best works were displayed during the afternoon in the Manta & Mobula Rays Talkshow. These paintings were later returned to Sonne Social Organisation.
Before the event, the Goethe-Institut Myanmar Facebook Page engaged the audience with questions about Manta Rays, and those who participated received Prevent Plastics tote bags.
In the afternoon talk show, Myanmar Ocean Project Founder & Director Thanda Ko Gyi presented research findings on Manta Rays within Myanmar’s territorial waters. The presentation captivated many attendees, prompting numerous questions and lively discussions.
Special thanks were extended to the volunteers, children and teachers from Sonne Social Organisation and all the attendees who contributed to the event’s success.
