Rural Waste Awareness Journey Expand to Kayin

Improper waste management can uproot the beauty and longevity of nature. Collecting and disposing of household waste in urban areas are under the municipal arrangement. Still, rural communities take care of their waste by burning them and disposing them into the waterways.

To raise awareness on environmental awareness and sustainable waste management, Prevent Plastics Myanmar team provided two days training at Kayin Baptist Church, Thandaung Gyi, Kayin State, Myanmar. Training covers Awareness-raising about waste, and plastic pollution, waste segregation, bins and disposal, to set up systematic Rural waste management with village committee and youth leaders from villages. After the training, the team and community were able to set up a small waste collection system: Reuse old tar and bitumen drums as garbage bins and semi-public bins to set up a better waste collection system in the village. Cartoon illustrations and Crystal Angel stories were the highlights for kid audiences.
