Fostering Environmental Consciousness: Students Embrace SustainabilityFostering

August 13, 2023

In a bid to nurture a generation that values and protects the environment, the Embassy of Sweden Section Office in Yangon, in collaboration with the Swedish Institute, Swedish Alumni Network Myanmar, and Prevent Plastics Myanmar, orchestrated a remarkable awareness session on August 11th for the students of Hall Way International School. The event, brimming with insightful activities, aimed to instil in the young minds the significance of environmental awareness and sustainable practices.
Children are undeniably the torchbearers of a sustainable future, and the importance of their connection with nature cannot be overstated. The session began with this poignant message, highlighting the necessity to treat planet Earth with the utmost respect and affection it deserves.
The key highlight of the event was a thought-provoking address by Technical Expert Naw Julie Aung. She imparted a brief yet impactful training session designed to reignite the students’ appreciation for our planet and encourage the adoption of sustainable behaviours. The session revolved around the hashtag #SWITCH, underscoring the power of individual choices in driving positive environmental change.
The students actively built a small play area using eco-bricks. This hands-on project held a dual purpose: it fostered creativity and teamwork among the students and taught them a valuable lesson in waste management. By utilising the waste generated within the school premises, the students creatively repurposed materials that might have otherwise ended up in landfills. This endeavour demonstrated the practical application of recycling and waste reduction, leaving a lasting impression on young minds.
The initiative taken by the Embassy of Sweden Section Office, alongside their partners, reflects a commendable effort to mould environmentally conscious citizens from an early age. The session succeeded in sowing the seeds of responsibility and care for our planet by engaging children in meaningful activities that directly contribute to a cleaner environment.
As the echo of this awareness session resonates through the school corridors, it is clear that it has left an indelible mark on the students. The lessons learned on that day will undoubtedly significantly shape their attitudes and behaviours towards the environment as they grow into future leaders and responsible global citizens.
In a world where environmental challenges continue to grow, nurturing a generation that cares deeply for the planet is our best hope for a sustainable tomorrow. The initiative undertaken by Hall Way International School and its partners stands as a testament to the transformative power of education and hands-on experiences in creating a greener and brighter future for all.
