Pieces of snack bags were picked up by a girl from the school compound; I gazed at her activity from the training floor window put a smile on my face- said by Tr. Wai Zin, Paung Daw Oo. Together with Thant Myanmar and Paung Daw Oo monastic education, Prevent Plastics Myanmar organised a training to promote environmental literacy & introduction to sustainability, focusing on plastics pollution.
The collaboration began in July 2021, and the team has been developing an approachable module to provide environmental awareness lessons to students at ten monastic schools in the first year. The group met via zoom to draft Plastic Waste Awareness Handbook for the teachers and gave TOT training online representatives from those schools. On 14th Dec 2021, the Prevent Plastics team with Thant Myanmar trainers visited Mandalay for groundbreaking training with the first two monastic schools.
Paung Daw Oo team will continue the remaining eight monastic schools in the coming months. The Plastic & Waste Awareness Training were given to over four hundred students from primary to high school. Training is tailored based on the age of the students and classified into three different modules. Poems and dance moves are used to attract the students’, and it makes them easier to remember the lesson and be mindful about littering and plastic reduction. Cartoon visuals and stories play a big part in educating the younger generation. Prevent Plastics Myanmar will continue to educate the younger generation to grow up valuing the importance of waster management and environmental conservation.
Stay tuned for upcoming activities on sustainability!!!
