Prevent Plastics team has also conducted a Dumpsite Assessment at waste dumpsite with Thant Myanmar to understand what types and quantities of waste (paper, plastic, food, etc.) that have produced and thrown away to the dumpsites from South Dagon Industries Zone 1. With the goals of comprehending how waste streams and assess the current state of industrial zones and waste monitoring system with minimum standards. The audit can help the team to determine the sources (where is the most come from such as industries, households, etc.) and kinds of waste produced, discover recycling opportunities, improve the waste management system, and alleviate the impact of waste on the environment.
Prevent Plastics and Thant Myanmar have collaborated with local waste collectors to run the dumpsite audit of 50 tons waste truck in South Dagon Industries Zone 1. The process took three steps to follow; choosing bags from the dumpsite, separating the trash, household waste, agriproduct, and recycle materials, and examining the materials to determine the source of the products. Thant Myanmar is in the process of generating the result for the assessment.
Prevent Plastics Team has also discussed and shared with The Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI), Myanmar Industries Association, Mandalay Region Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Yangon City Development Committee (YCDC), and Pollution Control and Cleansing Department (PCCD) the project objectives and emerge them to collaborate with the Prevent Plastics team.
