Rural Waste Management In Action At Chaung Wa Village

Rural communities take care of their waste by burning them, disposing of them in the waterways, and dumping them from the cliff. As these are not best practices for the waste management system, it causes rural areas to be cluttered with discarded items and create health problems.

Over 280 households live in Chaung Wa Village, and their livelihood relies on agriculture & fishery. Dumping the waste into the waterway directly affects the community in the area. Thu, systematic rural waste management is required. Thant Myanmar team trained the local youths on waste management and its practices and raised awareness of environmental conservation among the locals.

The rural waste management at Chaung Wa village came to life with the support of EU SWITCH-Asia Programme project Prevent Plastics and the persistent effort of Thant Myanmar team. Together we are power!
