From 1st Dec 2020 to 6th Jan 2021 Prevent Plastics Myanmar together with Thant Myanmar, Say No to Plastic, Air Quality Yangon, Mindful Burma, MRCCI – Mandalay Region Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Clean Bagan, Recycle Myanmar, Trash Hero Myanmar organised a “Responsible Consumer Campaign” to raise awareness and alert the consumers single-use plastic drawback. With the rise of the demand for takeaway order and online shopping/delivery during the global pandemic, plastic waste productions are increasing day by day. The limited knowledge of plastics’ harmfulness and shortfall on the availability of alternatives for plastic packaging, the community in Myanmar tend to prefer deliveries & take away using plastic boxes or bags or foam boxes.
This campaign’s main idea is to raise awareness on the side effects of plastic and promote sustainable living cultural in Myanmar and encourage and support the powerful voice of the consumers and proof that it is essential for change.
The severals campaigners participated in the challenge, and it is exhilarating to see the motives of the local’s willingness to change their behaviours toward the sustainable living style. To promote Consumer awareness is one of the main pillars of the Prevent Plastics project, we will continue to partner up with the local or international organisations in the same vision.
